Johann Jax, Linz

#10177, courtesy of Marco Trapp. The machine is thought to date to c1890s. After studying in Paris and England Johann Jax began manufacturing sewing machines in 1882 and bicycles in 1886. The treadle base bears the pictures of the Empress Elisabeth (Sissi) and the Emperor Franz on both sides of the treadle. The drawer has to be opened before the base can be opened. The bobbin winder is based on a White bobbin winder.
